He's been readily available for consultation, and he's willing to ask the hard questions and encourage him to try out different directions. Geneva is a fairly small town compared to what a lot of students from New York City and Boston are used to, but for me its bigger than my hometown, but still fairly small so it's comforting. I like that it is a small, residential campus that is easy to travel. The Hockey rink is downtown and seems to always draw a rowdy crowd. And they do have a rather high attrition rate after the first year (around 15%, I think), and from what I've heard, a lot of those are the top-performers, academically speaking. And, of course, it has its moments during the winter too.

I think it's just one semester of foreign language that's required, although I could be wrong about that. does the size of the school limit you in any way? There is a municipal bus system and private taxis and ride share services (Uber and Lyft). I like that it is a small, residential campus that is easy to travel. It's a separate-but-equal system, and the schools share almost everything (facilities although not some dorms, professors, etc). Hobart has a caring faculty, great student body, and a beautiful campus. There are some very bright and hardworking students at HWS. You can take sailing classes at HWS if you want to sail on the lake. One of the best things about HWS is the campus, which is absolutely gorgeous and located on beautiful Seneca Lake. Merit scholarships are available for qualifying students as well as need-based financial aid. "When the weather is nice, the lake and surrounding area are very scenic and excellent for running/biking," and you'll often find people "playing catch or frisbee on the quad." Do you need a car. Mostly because I SWORE we could have had a TV show. Notable speakers from all over the world come to the colleges through the Forum Speaker program. The 2,300 students share the same campus, classes, dorms and overall. Professors are brilliant/Ivy League grads but lowered their standards to conform to subpar students. The academics seems as if they are good for athletes, but the grades are handed out based on growth in many classes, so no matter if you are a great writer or a horrible one, you will get a good grade with some improvement. You could find a party if you wanted to socialize. Yes, there are two separate student governments, if that's what you mean. I like the friends I have made there. Also, could someone explain to me why HWS has been referred to as a "party school" in some of the previous posts? But I'd advise against going there at night, or going into some of the residential neighborhoods of Geneva - they've definitely seen better days. That same choice and opportunity applies to day-to-day classes as well. Academically I have been challenged and I feel as though when I go to class I am learning something that I truly care about. The highest ranked major at the school is general economics. Elementary school I wore two different shoes to school. And D did not receive as warm a welcome at HWS as at some other schools (it just could have been the students on campus during the summer, but the summer was when we had the time to make the trip). The school's expensive - if it's value you're looking for, and you're not going to be getting any aid, head down the road to Geneseo or Binghamton. My daughter wound up being hospitalized with black mold poisoning which she is still suffering long term side effects from almost a year later. Last year Syracuse U. had done the same trip and some kid had been really stupid and wound up getting twenty stitches; HWS did the trip the following week and prided itself in having no one get any stitches and this year they intended to keep that record. From the outside looking in as my son will be a first year this fall, as far as the coordinate system goes, I think the potential for leadership and self-governance opportunities for both colleges is twice what would be needed if it were completely co-ed, and the athletic teams have their own identities. Majority of students play sports & they make that their entire life & therefore view academics as secondary & don't care about going to their classes/doing the work (emphasis: MAJORITY OF STUDENTS). My friends are really the only people that I could be myself around. There were a few events last weekend which were all really fun and exciting, and it's really not difficult to make new friends.
